In The Face Of
The unrelenting onslaught of hatred-driven decisions couched in ways that try to claim the push is towards saving America can be hard to take. You have to step back, realise that the intention is to destabilise people, and the you have to find a way to plant your feet, and prepare to meet the challenge.
Look to the side of you and see the people who have always had your back, and make sure that you have theirs. And if there is someone near you that is vulnerable and unable to help at the moment with the battle, and needs protecting, stand against the threat for them too.
It isn’t just a matter of opinion when someone allies themselves with people that are seeking to not only strip rights from a sector of the community, but to criminalise them — it is an attack. The only ones who are in doubt that we are under attack are those who have enough insulation that they haven’t been made to feel uncomfortable by the moves being made at the top of the country.
Dissent is starting to become more dangerous. When dissent is dangerous in a country in which the first amendment guarantees free speech. What does it mean to have a Green Card when having an opposing viewpoint to the government could get you in trouble?
Test balloons are going up all the time. How do they play with the base? How much real push back do they generate from the opposition? How readily are the talking points picked up by the media and run with? How do the cases you bring play out in the courts? And if you decide to ignore rulings that come down against you, what are the actual ramifications?
You could shut up. You could shrivel up and die. Or you can be what you are, and fight for yourself and others to live that way too. When do you cut and run? When your life is under threat. When your family is in danger. But doesn’t the thought of abandoning anyone to the insanity trouble you? Yes, of course.
